Indian Shapefiles Central

Shapefiles refer to a geospatial data format.  Basically the area of something on a map is a shape or polygon, that shape is made up of points.  A shapefiles allows for you to create shapes on a map using latitudes and longitudes. However, shapefiles are just one type of format for this type of data, you can see what other standards for data there are here.

This is useful if you want to create maps and visualize data you have from a particular location.
